Mini BOW (Becoming an Outdoors-Woman) - Bullfrogging at Perry Wildlife Area

Join us Saturday, August 22nd at Kyle Marsh in the Perry Wildlife Area for an introductory Bullfrog Hunt. You’ll learn essential safety tips, processing techniques, watch a frog leg cooking demo, and participate in bullfrogging methods of choice.

Beginning Level: This is a FREE event designated for women aged 18+ with little to no prior experience! 

Expect this event to last for six hours. The first half of class will include instruction, methods and ethics, and a processing and cooking demo. Field time will begin at approximately 9:00 PM, with a hard cut off time of 12:00 AM. 

For participant and instructor safety, participants must be able to wade through brush, water, and mud in the dark during the August heat.  Bullfrogs share the same habitat with ticks, snakes, and other wildlife.

Equipment Provided

KDWP will provide most equipment including flashlights and methods of take. 

Participants need to bring:

  • Chair
  • Water Bottle (water station will be provided for refills)
  • Bug Spray
  • Flashlight or headlamp
  • Cooler with ice
  • Resealable gallon freezer bags
  • Clothes you are willing to get wet and muddy
  • Rubber Boots/Waders/Other close-toed shoes that will be fully submerged in water
  • Towel
  • Bag for your wet and muddy clothes
  • Change of clothes for the drive home

Participants are welcome to bring their own legal method of take,  and other equipment for your comfort and success. See under Need to Know section for more information.

There is no bathrooms at the marsh.  Please come prepared.

Participants are REQUIRED to obtain a KDWP ID # through GoOutdoorsKansas website or mobile app before registering for the event. A valid Kansas Fishing License is REQUIRED. 

Lodging is not provided by KDWP- Camping Reservations can be made at Perry State Park if staying at the state park you will need a valid park pass. You can purchase those reservations or park pass by clicking here.

A park pass is not required in the Wildlife Area.

Need to Know

 Bullfrog season is open July 1 through October 31.

Daily creel limit is eight. Possession limit is 24 bullfrogs.

A valid fishing license is required to take, catch, or kill bullfrogs, unless exempt.

Bullfrogs may be taken any time of day or night by dip net, gig, hook and line, hand, bow and arrow, or crossbow. A line must attach bow to arrow, and the arrow must have a barbed head. Any other method of taking bullfrogs is prohibited.
