Traditional Hunter Education Course - Lyon County

Hunter Education Traditional Course 

Two-day Course:
Friday, May 29, 2026, 6:30-9pm and
Saturday, May 30, 2026, 8am-4:30pm

Participants must be at least 11 years old. 

The course consists of subjects covering hunter responsibility, ethics, fair chase, history of firearms, firearms basics, ammunition, basic gun safety, field safety, bowhunting, conservation and wildlife management, wildlife of Kansas, outdoor emergencies, Kansas hunting regulations and boating safety for hunters.

Where possible, students may live fire and/or go through simulated hunting conditions.

Instructor Notes:  This is a Friday evening and all day Saturday class. Students must attend both days. The Friday evening session will be mostly in the classroom or under a covered canopy. The Saturday sessions mostly be outside. Dress for the weather. Wear boots or shoes suitable for walking in grass. No open-toed shoes or flip flops.

We will conduct a simulated hunt walking in grass. We will have archery and shotgun live fire. It is advised to bring insect repellent and sunscreen.
At the end of the day on Saturday, you will take a 52-question final test. Upon successfully passing the test you will receive your Hunter Education certificate. DO NOT bring firearms, ammunition or archery equipment. Those will be provided.
