KDWP operates four fish hatcheries (in Farlington, Meade, Milford, and Pratt) and a rearing pond at Woodson State Fishing Lake. This system provides approximately 43 million juvenile and fingerling fish and 385,000 larger fish for stocking in Kansas public waters each year.

Species raised include bluegill, channel catfish, crappie, largemouth bass, northern pike, rainbow trout, sunfish, sauger, saugeye,  smallmouth bass, striped bass, wiper, and walleye. Supplemental fish of catchable size are also purchased from commercial sources to provide additional fish stocking for species unsuitable for Kansas hatcheries, such as channel catfish and rainbow trout
