A valid fishing license is required to fish in Kansas. Additional activity and species-specific permits may also be required.

All fees listed below are base prices. Agent and transaction fees are added to all license and permit purchases. 


April 2026 Note: Senate Bill 364 restores KDWP’s authority to offer a discounted 10-year senior license and expands eligibility for the children’s lifetime license. Both changes must go through the standard regulatory process before they can take effect. The earliest these updated license options will be available is November 2026.


 General Fishing License Fees

All resident anglers age 16 through 74 must have a resident fishing license unless exempt by Kansas law.

Non-resident anglers age 16 and older must have a nonresident fishing license (unless fishing on a private pond not leased for public fishing.)

Free Licenses

License Description Application
National Guard Free one year hunting and fishing licenses and and state park vehicle permits are to active members of the Kansas National Guard, as annual funding lasts. Available by mailed application only. Download the National Guard License & Park Permit Application.
Kansas Resident Disabled Veterans Free one year hunting and fishing licenses are made available and issued based on funding. Applicant must provide a copy of current disabled veterans entitlement papers showing proof of at least 30% disability. Available by mailed application only. Kansas Resident American Indian Free one year hunting, fishing, and trapping licenses to Kansas residents with proof of tribal enrollment. Available through online application only.

*Kansas residents 15 years of age and younger are not required to purchase a hunting or fishing license. Fishing Permits

Fishing permits are the same price for Kansas residents and nonresidents. These permits are required in addition to a valid fishing license if you are participating in these activities.
