Lehigh Portland State Park occupies land that was once a bustling limestone quarry, providing stone for the Lehigh Portland Cement Company that helped build roads and cities across Kansas in the early 1900s. The quarry walls, now steep cliffs surrounding the lake, stand as a reminder of the park’s industrial past.

Over time, the quarry filled with water and nature reclaimed the area. Today, visitors can enjoy dramatic limestone cliffs, wooded hillsides, and a peaceful lake that provides a scenic setting for recreation and relaxation.

The park’s quiet atmosphere and distinctive geology make it a favorite destination for anglers, hikers, photographers, and campers looking for something different from traditional Kansas reservoirs.

The park offers opportunities for fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing, photography, boating and camping. Twenty-eight utility campsites with water, electrical and sewer service is available. A modern 4-pod CXT shower house provides restroom and shower facilities. A visitor’s center is also available.

A Kansas State Park vehicle permit is required for entry into the park and camping permits are required for overnight stays. Quiet hours are from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
